Privacy
Burnish is a local-first desktop application. In short: your files never leave your computer.
What Burnish does
- Reads the images you add and writes processed copies to the folder you choose. Original files are never modified or deleted.
- Keeps on your computer your saved workflows, your settings, a history of your last 100 batches (file names, where results went, why a file failed), and your automation rules. You can turn the history off and clear it at any time.
- Shows a notification from your operating system when an automation rule has processed images, with the rule's name and a count, never file names.
- Opens your mail program with a draft when you press Report a problem. The draft holds the version of Burnish, your system, and its processor type, and no file names; you decide whether to send it and whether to attach the log.
- Writes a local log file to help diagnose problems. It holds file names and error descriptions, never file contents, and is not sent anywhere.
What Burnish does not do
- It does not upload files, images, or metadata to any server.
- It does not need an account.
- It has no analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking.
- It connects to the internet only to check for updates and, for Burnish Pro, when you press Activate or Remove license. Both are described below.
By default, processed images keep their color profile but not other metadata such as camera details, dates, or GPS location. A workflow can choose to keep them.
Updates
Unless you switch it off in Settings, Burnish asks once a day, and once shortly after it starts, whether a newer version exists. It downloads a small file named latest.json from the Burnish releases page on GitHub. Nothing about you, your files, your workflows, or your license is sent; like any web server, GitHub sees your internet address. If a newer version exists, Burnish asks you first and downloads it only when you press Update now, and it installs a download only if it carries Burnish's signature. With the check switched off, Burnish looks for updates only when you press Check now.
Burnish Pro license
Pro is unlocked with a license key. Only when you press Activate or Remove the license in Settings does Burnish contact the license service of the seller, Lemon Squeezy, once. It sends your key and a label for the computer (the name of the operating system and a short random suffix, never the computer's name or yours), and reads back whether the key is valid. Like any request on the internet, it also lets the service see your internet address. The key and the product's name are saved on your computer; your name and email are not. Burnish never checks the license again, so Pro works offline. The Buy button only opens the purchase page in your browser. Without a key, Burnish never contacts the license service.
This website
This site is made of plain pages and files. It loads no third-party scripts, fonts, or analytics, and sets no cookies. The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which may keep basic server logs, such as the time of a request and the address it came from, to keep the site secure and running. Honebench uses no analytics.
Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which sells Burnish Pro to you as the merchant of record, and which collects the details needed to take the payment and send you the license key. Honebench does not see or store your card details.
Terms
These terms apply when you download, install, or use Burnish, or buy a Burnish Pro license. If you do not agree with them, do not use Burnish. Last updated: October 2026.
The free version
You may use Burnish without a license and without paying, for personal or commercial work. The free version has no time limit.
The Pro license
- Burnish Pro is a one-time purchase. It unlocks the Pro features described on the Burnish page; there is no subscription.
- One license key may be used by the person or the company that bought it, on up to three computers at the same time. You can free a place by removing the license in Settings, and then use the key on another computer.
- A license includes every update up to and including version 1.x: all 0.x and 1.x versions. Version 2.0 or later may need a new license, and this will be said clearly before you buy it.
- The license is for you. You may not sell, share, or publish your key, or use a key that was not issued to you.
What is not allowed
- Selling, renting, or redistributing Burnish, or a license key.
- Removing, bypassing, or tampering with the license check, or helping others to do so.
- Using Burnish for anything unlawful, or to process images you have no right to use.
Your files
Your images stay on your computer and remain yours. Burnish never changes your original files, but you are responsible for checking the results and for keeping copies of files that matter.
No warranty, and limits of liability
Burnish is provided "as it is", without a warranty of any kind. To the extent the law allows, Honebench is not liable for lost data, lost profit, or any indirect damage that comes from using Burnish, and the total liability for any claim is limited to the price you paid for Burnish Pro. This does not limit rights that the law gives you as a consumer and that cannot be waived.
Changes and law
These terms may change; the date above shows the latest version, and a change does not reduce what you have already bought. They are governed by the laws of Moldova, without removing the protection that the mandatory consumer law of the country where you live gives you. Questions: [email protected].
Refunds
You can ask for a refund of Burnish Pro within 14 days of the purchase, for any reason. You do not need to explain.
- How to ask: write to [email protected] from the email you used for the purchase, or give the order number from your receipt.
- Who pays you back: the payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy, which returns the money to the original payment method. Your bank may need several business days to show it.
- The license: after a refund the license key is cancelled. Burnish does not check licenses online, so it may keep working on a computer where it was already activated; by asking for a refund you agree to stop using the key and to remove it in Settings.
- The free version is free, so there is nothing to refund.
